about me
Barbara Dimitreas
I hold a B.A. in Education/Psychology, with 2 postgraduate certifications in Counseling Modalities and am in the final, internship phase of my MSc in Applied Developmental Psychology, with advanced training in assessment and intervention across the lifespan. I have completed an Advanced Post Graduate Certificate in post modern Counseling and Psychotherapy approaches at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. I practice from a person-centered framework, and as a student of Transactional Analysis, emphasizing safety, attunement, and respect for each other's unique experience. I practice bilingual, individual and family counselling in English and Greek, supporting clients with a culturally sensitive and developmentally informed approach.
Raising my three children has been the experience that singlehandedly shaped both my personal and professional journey. I am an educator and a counsellor, deeply committed to supporting others through life’s most pivotal moments. My academic foundation spans Early Childhood Education, Developmental Psychology, and Counselling, and my professional training has been enriched by my bilingual upbringing. Born in the United States to Greek parents, I was raised fluent in both English and Greek, which has allowed me to develop a profound understanding of both languages and cultures. This bilingual and bicultural perspective enriches my approach to counselling, enabling me to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds. Having lived in both the United States and Greece, I bring a unique blend of personal and professional experience to my practice. My journey as a woman and a parent, combined with years of academic study and training, has equipped me with the tools to help guide individuals, couples, and families through transitions and challenges with empathy and insight. My deep interest in family dynamics and my love of parenting and children have always been central to my work. After raising my own family and taking time to explore my creative passions, I returned to my post-graduate studies to pursue my lifelong calling in counselling. My diverse experiences as a mother, professional, and lifelong learner allow me to offer a compassionate, holistic approach to therapy, combining humanistic approaches to help clients navigate life’s transitions, strengthen relationships, and cultivate emotional well-being.
